The lost trek route between Kedarnath and Badrinath. The two main temples of Devbhoomi

It is mythological route on which pilgrims used to trek from Kedarnath to Badrinath in 1 day. This route was lost in time but few expeditioners and mountaineers have re-discovered this route. If developed into a good trek route then hardy trekkers could reach Badrinath from Kedarnath or vice-versa in 1 day travelling only 86 kms. rather than 150-200 kms by car/bus.

  • Can't stop myself from writing. Specially after the Star Ananada & ABP published story where he reduced Biman to a HAP & myself (Debu) to a HAP-cum-Priest. Of course the idea was conceived and produced By Mr. Tapan Pandit But the whole reasearch work on Google Earth & Contours was done by me and the route is found by myself. On 1st May Mr. Pandit met me with a hand traced (with red sketch pen on a tracing paper) copy of Survey of India map on which Mr. Tridib Basu marked two possible routes. One of them was through the Main icefall and the other was through the 2nd right side-glacier. He didn't even sketched the third side glacier part's contour. Not even Dr. Tridib Basu suggested that. I did that on that tracing paper after that. My initial idea followed those two routes. But after I wrote and got the reply back from Martin Moran about the difficulty of the main icefall and the contour & Google earth showing the hanging seracs of the 2nd side glacier I started contemplating on a totally differnt approach. Night after night I spent in front of my computer screen with google ath pic and in my hand my own collected copy of 100 mtr. contour. And then suddenly one night I lookd on the other side of the glacier to find that route. Again his idea was to cross it from Madmaheswar side and in September. Which I changed to Badrinath side and in May for specific reasons of covered Crevasses & climbing technique of icefall. Mr. Pandit didn't trust that route even the day we saw it. He askd me several time whether we would really find a feasible gulley throgh that?? I don't want to put anymore here. I am really disheartened with his behaviour. By the way don't trust in the sentences published. If you want to go there. Please keep some ropes to be fixed on that mixed rock-ice Parvati Gulley. It could be really fatal if you slip on a 70 degree gradient with a 1000' ft fall. This a peice of advice from the Ex-Leader of the National Mountaineering team of India (IMF). - Debabrata Mukherjee.
  • mr,pandit i read ur story on ananda bazar patrika.u told to reporter u saw route map from google earth but my friend where did u find the cave,where in the google map u saw it boss.the mythologycal route is only 52kms and ur discovered route is 86kms.i think ur route is not mythological route............
  • Difference of opinion usually comes in high altitude rock and roll. TRUST is subjective word and having different meaning at different times. What I like about this route is that atleast we INDIANS have something to keep alive. Be it hard work of you or mine...atleast WE ARE finding something. Keep the fire alive !

  • first all may kindly note that this route(the parbati gully) actually traced by debrata mukherjee. and he has led the team to success. kudos to mr. pandit for his decision to go under take this trek, but he should sincerely acknowledge the role played by debabrata mukherjee and his friend biman. the star ananda documentary was not take at the time of this expedition, i suppose, as there is no t a single shot after the temple!!!!. mr pandit should come clean in this matter. those who want to go through this route may pl. see the google earth carefully, as this route require every thing that a big expedition team need. DO NOT GO BY MR. PANDIT'S WORD
