It is one of the major national reserves in India. The forest division of Kalagarh is spread in over an area of 301.18 sq km which also includes Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, along with Jim Corbett Park. We commonly term it as North Corbett.
In 1974, when Project Tiger was launched in India, the Northern part of Jim Corbett was named as Kalagarh Tiger Reserve. The reserve is administered from its headquarters located in the Nanital District. However, the forest Government of Uttrakhand has registered it under Lansdowne division.
Kalagarh is an abode for many wildlife species in the Shivalik Mountain Range, of the Himalayas.

The entry to Kalagarh Tiger Reserve is made through– Vatanvasa gate, Kalingo gate, Maidavan and Durgadevi Gate.

In this region, the forest has five FRH (forest rest houses) namely, Halduparo, Mundiapani, Rathuadhab,Kanda and Lohar Chaur.
