 library, archives institution

The Newberry Library is one of the world's leading independent research libraries. Its collections focus on the history and literature of the Americas and Western Europe. The Newbery Award (note the different spelling) is not associated with this library. The building was designed c. 1893 by Henry Ives Cobb with a later addition by Harry Weese Associates in 1981.

The library is free and open to the public, however, the collections are non-circulating. Scholars, family historians, and students will find its collections useful.
