In the first decade of the past century the luxury of a bathroom was known only to the wealthy. Yet, with their donations, Kitzingen’s affluent enabled the const ruction of a public bathhouse. Just before construction work started, an abundant salt spring was discovered, so the plan was extended to establish Kitzingen as a health spa town. But three days before the grand opening by the prince regent, the assassination of the Austrian archduke in Serbia ignited the First World War and ended Kitzingen’s dream. Today the building serves as the city’s public library and adult education center. www.kitzingen.info/fileadmin/files_kultur_tourismus/tou...
