Żywiec (German: Saybusch, Saubusch) is a city in south-central Poland with 32,078 inhabitants (2006). Situated in the Silesian Voivodeship (since 1999), previously in Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship (1975-1998). The city is situated in Żywiec Vale.

The city is famous for its Żywiec Brewery.

    The city is situated in the valley which has an area of 100 km2, at the point where the Soła River and the Koszarawa River converge, at Żywieckie Lake, at the height of 345-350 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by mountains: the Beskid Śląski in the west, the Beskid Mały in the north, the Jałowieckie Range in the east and the highest peaks of the Beskid Żywiecki: Babia Góra (1725 m), Pilsko (1557 m), Lipowska (1324 m), Rycerzowa (1226 m) and Wielka Racza (1236 m) in the south. The beautiful and varied landscape of Żywiec area is composed of towering mountains, long ridges with vast woods and picturesque meadows, charming valleys cut by mountain brooks, winding tourist trails and numerous view points. From the meadows, there is a panoramic view on densely scattered fields and farms. Uniquely located at the foot of green mountain peaks and on the shores of a tourist and recreation centre. The Beskidy Mountains can boast a most varied natural environment with several protected reserves and landscape parks. The most beatiful parts of the Żywiecki Beskid from the Żywiecki Landscape Park (estabilished in 1986), very attractive for tourists and holiday-makers. The Tourist Information Office (Żywiec, Rynek 12, phone no.(33)8614310) gives more information about events currently organized in Żywiec. The office is open: Monday-Friday 9.00am till 5.00pm, on Saturday 9.00am till 3.00pm. - Monuments -The Old Castle n Żywiec, made of stone and roughast, dates back to the mid-14th century. -The New Castle is a classicistic palace built by the Habsburgs on the site of the Wielopolskis' former outbuildings (of which one building has survived and houses TMZŻ today). -The Park . Żywiec Castle is surrounded by a historic 26-ha park, which dates from the 17th century. -The Cathedral of the Virgin Mary's Birth. The church was built in the first half of the 15th century. -The Church of the holy Cross. It was erected at the end of the 14h century in the Gothic style.
