  • My stepdad, Glenn "Mike" Michaels was stationed at this base from 1966-1969, and my mom and I went with him. We lived off base in an apartment, and I have many fond memories of Hof/Saale.
  • I was stationed here from 1966 to 1968 then on to Wakanai. Great memories from these two out of the way stations. Best to all that shared time there.
  • I was at Hof 1964-66 fond memories of the Schon Blick! Across from the Main Gate!!
  • I was stationed there from 1965 to 1968. Great times and loved my stay is Germany. I miss the fasching and festing seasons. Weather was a little on the cold side though. I was with USAFSS and worked out at the site.
  • I was at the 606th from 1969-1972. Great time. Jerry O'Carroll

  • I loved their schnitzel sandwiches!
  • Walter, check in with Hof Reunion.com please..
  • I was a brat at Hof from 1962 - 1964, went to German schools for two years then to Bindlach Air Force school, then to the grade school on the base at Hof when it opened. John Peterson and I were the only 8th graders; but not to have take the bus to Bindlach every day was a relief (it broke down often.) Eric Culver
  • I was stationed there from '63 to '65. Great guys and fond memories. That bus was COLD for Charley Trick heading out to the site! The Airmen's Club, the SchonBlick across from the main gate, the Italian restaurant downtown. So many nice places and friendly people.
  • if you mean the ones at that off limits place in town me too i was there frm late 68 -early 69 radio teletype op army 1/2 army Calvary out of bin-lac
  • I was there from 1961-1964, back to the states for Intermediate Language, then back Hof from 1965-1968. On Dog trick first tour, Baker trick second. Visited the site in1971 while stationed at Rhein Main. Loved Hof, loved the people, loved the schnitzel's from Karl at the Shoen Blick.
  • The 6915th was my first overseas assignment and I was already a SSgt. On the bus over from Frankfurt, I heard for the first time the site was scheduled to be closed. I had the honor of being the last linguist, 203, to leave Hof in December 1971. My wife had given birth to our first daughter, the site shut down and everyone moved down to Rimbach (Mt. Eckstein/Hohen Bogen). Medically we couldn't move yet. My "job" was to check every day in the closed down orderly room to see if any mail had been delivered by mistake. It was very boring since all our friends had moved. We moved to Rimbach a couple of weeks before we technically should have, but we just wanted to go.
  • Stationed there 67-69. What a beautiful area!
  • Had the best am beat band in europe in 1967.
  • It no longer serves German food
  • I was station there from 1971-73. We use go across the street to the pub.The vener schnitzel was awesome.
  • My tour was 1965 to 1968. Assigned to the 1944-19 Comm Det (later 1944-10 Comm Det). Agree that the schnitzel at the Schoen Blick was always outstanding. Hof was a really terrific assignment in those days. Fine city, good people. Nice
  • Hello Carl, I remember you being stationed with the 1944-19 Comm Det. You were with telephone maintenance and married a girl from the snack bar, and had a baby born in the Hof Krankenhaus. Greetings from Bavaria....Helga
  • John, I was a short tour Russian 203 there 1968-1969, then on to NSA. Loved the schnitzel on brochen the old street vendor peddled!
  • Schönblick, the best goulasch soup and schnitzel brot. It's a Mexican restaurant now :)
  • Sorry, but I just saw your post. No, it was still up and running when I left. I don't know when it closed.
  • Bill McElroy SchonBlick & Schnitzel & Foosball. Was the ECM shed maintenance manager in 1963-1964, and ran the Bowling Alley League, the Electronics Hobby Shop, Photo Hobby Shop, and the Motorcycle Licensing and Club.. Lots of great people, great fun, and memories.
  • I was born in Hof March 1967. German mother Nora Joelich from Lorenzstr.18 I think my father is James “Jim” Harris. Frequented a place called Erika Bar/ Jakes.
  • I was a 20351 stationed there from the fall of 1969 until June 1971, when I had the privilege of being accepted into the Bootstrap Commissioning Program and went to the U. of Nebraska, then to OTS and the usual tech school at Goodfellow and then on to the 6981st SG in Alaska. Like most of you, all the USAFSS bases I was ever stationed at have long since closed.
  • Jim Wood, here. My father was a USAF/GD tech rep stationed at Kingsley Barracks/kaserne in 1960. He helped build the 1st installation on the site. We (& my mother & I) lived at the Hotel Kunzel, in Hof/Saale, at the time. My dad loved it & we all had a great time w. fond memories.
  • Chris Dodson here. My father Coy Dodson was stationed in Hof 66-69, including one year 66-67 in Vietnam. We lived “on the economy” in the nearby town of Schwarzenbach. My older brother attended 1st and 2nd grades at the base elementary school and I went to a German Kindergarten.
