Here lies the site where the Deepwater Horizon sank. At 9:49 PM CST on April 20th 2010, an explosion occurred on the Deepwater Horizon as the result of a well blowout. 11 died and 16 were injured in the explosion. Two days later the Horizon sank to where it lies today. This resulted in the largest accidental maritime oil spill in which oil flowed for 85 days affecting the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. The gusher was stopped on July 15th and the well was completely sealed on September 19th.
