This was one of the original locations for the town of Balize, Louisiana. The town was relocated and rebuilt several times due to hurricanes and the shifting of the river. This particular location shows up on USGS maps from 1893 and 1958. The 1893 map shows the location of the town which was at the time on the bank of Southeast pass. By the 1950's the channel of Southeast pass had shifted farther north leaving the town deep in the marsh on the remnants of old Bayou Balize. As late as the 1960's some parts of the town were visible at low tide but today there is nothing left of the town or of the land it was once on.
