Candi Pringapus located in Pringapus, Ngadirejo, 22 km northwest of the capital city of Temanggung. Hindu art statues close related with Lord Shiva, signifies that the character of Candi Pringapus is Hindu Siwaistis Sect. The temple was built in the year 850 AD according to the inscriptions found around the temple when the restoration was held in 1932. This temple is a replica Mahameru, the name of a mountain place of the gods. This was proved by the existence of the Antefiq and Hapsara-Hapsari reliefs which describes a half-god creature . Hindu Siwaistis Sect have special character, which can be seen from the existence of Hindu statues which close to the god Shiva. And it is manifested at the position of the statues at each of the compass direction. The main entrance facing east, and guarded with Kala and Nandi statues. Kala is a child that is born from Shiva's union with powerful natural forces. Kala was born as a giant magic that can defeat all the gods. While the white bull Nandi is Shiva's vehicle, so Shiva in one manifestation is called Nandi Cwara.
In another part there Durga Mahesasuramardhini. Durga is one manifestation of Uma as the goddess of beauty with a variety of weapons as the grace from the god. As Durga, Uma legend has managed to beat a giant buffalo interfere the Brahmana. Inside the temple there are also Yoni (manifestation of Uma (wife of Shiva)) and Lingga (manifestation of Shiva. The unity of Lingga and yoni (phallus) is a symbol of the creation of the universe and a symbol of fertility. As a witness to the greatness of the past history, other interesting things from the temple is decoration of Kala, like a temple type of East Java.
