CDP - Census Designated Place, county seat
Eastern Sierra community of Bridgeport, population 836. Elevation 6,468 feet. US Route 395 runs through the center of town. (Summertime area population swells to several thousand.) This town's 15 minutes of fame came in 1947 when it served as the primary setting for the noir-gangster film "Out of the Past." Very little of the location shooting was actually done in the town, or at least it didn't show up on the screen.
