JC Studios, the home of “As The World Turns” since 2000, is located in Brooklyn along with a thriving community of production facilities. The studio has been in operation since 1903, when Vitagraph first opened a motion picture company across the street and used this site as a backlot and studio for Florence Turner under contract as the very first “Vitagraph Girl.” “The Esther Williams Show” was also filmed in the studio and her famous swimming pool still remains under the floor of Studio One. Under Warner Brothers ownership this studio was built in 1936.
In 1952, NBC purchased the studio and equipped it for color-television broadcasting. One of the studio's most memorable productions was Mary Martin’s “Peter Pan,” but other notable productions include “The Kraft Music Hall”, “Mitch Miller” and, more recently, “The Cosby Show,” and multiple soap operas including “Another World.”
As of July 2010, the long-running, Emmy-Award-winning soap opera “As The World Turns” will be leaving JC Studios, its home of the past 10 years, due to cancellation by CBS. As a result, the two state-of-the-art studios became available for other shows, whether they are serial dramas, talk shows, game shows or reality shows.
In 2014 JC Studios closed its doors for the final time, fading into film and television lore.
