Known as North Cottage in the Gammell family, the William Gammell House flanked that of Mrs. Thomas Shaw-Safe (née Harriet Ives Gammell) called Ocean Lawn by Peabody & Stearns (extant, 1889), architects, and that of Mr. R. • "Southside" was built in 1881-1884 for William Gammell, Sr. by architects McKim, Mead & White. The above left photo is actually a photo of "Ocean Lawn", the cottage to the north, as it was remodeled by Peabody & Stearns in 1888.
