1916 Statue (Limerick)

Ireland / Limerick / Limerick
 statue, memorial

A statue to the 1916 rising. It replaced a 19th century statue to a local man thought killed in the Crimean War. The man had actually defected to the Russians and turned up 20 years later working in Afghanistan for the Russians. Kipling wrote a short story called "The Man Who Was" about it. The Statue was blown up by the IRA in the 1930's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1916MonumentLimerick.jpg
