SEPTA Wayne Rail Substation & Static Frequency Converter (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

USA / Pennsylvania / Tioga / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
railway, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), electrical sub-station, railway traction substation

The frequency converter converts 60Hz grid power to 25Hz traction power for the Reading electrification. Replaced rotary converter on same site in 1986.

The substation then converts the 24kV 25Hz transmission power to 12kV 25Hz traction power for the overhead catenary. This is the main supply substation for the entire ex-Reading/SEPTA electrification.
