The Boston Massacre by: lucky smiley(the true writteris unidentified online.) 2/2/09 Some say, that the British started it. Some say that the Colonists started it. Some say that it was both who made the riot get out of hand. Well a lot of books or articles that you have seen have a picture by Paul Revere of the Boston Massacre. First, it all started when a colonist decided to taunt a British guard and through sticks and snowballs at him. The British guard got so annoyed and angry, that he smacked the colonist with the end of his gun. The colonist fell to the ground. The British soldier neared other soldiers and called for help. British shooting the colonists with a lot of smoke. This picture is very common for any book or article to have in it. But it is wrong. This picture has a lot of things wrong with it. First of all, in the picture, it is broad day light. But the real Boston Massacre was late at night. Also, the colonists in the picture were defenseless. But really, they had, sticks, stones, and snowballs. Also, in the picture, there were only 8 British soldiers attacking the Colonists. Really, there were 9. Now I am going to say what is most likely and what most people believe is true. I would not say that it is all true, but most of it is. And 9 rescue soldiers came to help him. His calls for help led more than 300 colonists over to were the guard was standing. Soon there was a giant mob of colonists. Many of the colonists were drunk because they came from a saloon. So the colonists got mad and were taunting the British soldiers to shoot them with there Muskets. The colonists were doing this because, they were drunk, and secondly because, they knew that they were not going to shoot, and that this was just making them feel bad and weak against the colonists. No one knows what exactly happened next, but we are pretty positive that this is what happened. The British commander was telling them not to shoot and that they would go to prison if they did. But then the riot started getting out of hand. One colonist was very crazy, and hit one of the soldiers with a big stick. Then he got up and just decided to shoot the colonist. So he shot him and of course, all of the other soldiers decided to follow. The commander knew that they were in a lot of trouble for shooting innocent colonists. When the shooting stopped, the soldiers had killed about 5 colonists, and injured 6 more. The soldiers were arrested and brought to court. One man, (John Adams) thought that this was not fair for the soldiers, so he offered to be a lawyer for them. He defended the British soldiers by telling the jury that the soldiers were just trying to protect themselves against the angry colonists. No one is exactly sure about what happened on this cold snowy day in march of 1770. But this is probably one of the closest stories of what happened. We call it “THE BOSTON MASSACRE.
