Brighton railway station is the principal railway station in the city of Brighton & Hove, on the south coast of England. It was built by the London & Brighton Railway in 1840, initially connecting Brighton to Shoreham-by-Sea, westwards along the coast, and shortly afterwards connecting it to the county town of Lewes to the east, and to London 82 km (51 miles) to the north.

Immediately to the west of the station is Lovers Walk Depot, used for servicing Southern's Class 377 Electrostar fleet.

Trains are operated by franchises trading under the names Southern, First Great Western, First Capital Connect, and Virgin Trains.

The station has a large double-spanned curved glass and iron roof covering the platforms, which was substantially renovated in 1999 and 2000
