Designed by Burnham & Root. Still the world's tallest masonry constructed building, the 17-story Monadnock has two sections. The northern one is not supported by a steel skeleton, but rather load-bearing brick walls - requiring them to be six feet thick at the base! The southern addition was completed in 1893.
