Deletion is the process in which WikiMapia tags are removed. There are several reasons to delete articles, but it should be used as a last resort when no useful information can be supplied to a tag. There are several reasons why a tag should or must be deleted.
Members with excessive amount of deleted places may face limits on their accounts or even banning them from WikiMapia. If you have any questions, feel free to use our forums for discussion. Please do not use our talk pages or this wiki for discussion of deleted places. The forum's Place Deletion Requests thread is a long and ongoing thread about deletion discussions.
Vulgarity
A neutral point of view is one of the cornerstones of WikiMapia so vulgarity has no place. WikiMapia is not a forum or soapbox for one's personal views or to support the views of others. If you do not like something, find another place on the web to describe it, if you wish to give your opinion of a place in WikiMapia.
Please keep in mind that there are a handful of places which have meanings in other languages (or even the native language of the place) which may contain vulgar or offensive language; if they are truthfully and accurately described, then WikiMapia has no reason to censor them, as long as the description is not used to sensationalize a place.
Politically or Religiously Charged Statements
Wikimapia is not the place to wage political, religious, territorial, or nationalistic battles. These types of places or comments will not be tolerated and will either be edited or removed. Tags should contain only neutral and factual information.
Personal Residences

The most common tag on WikiMapia is "My Home". With a world of over 6 billion inhabitants, there are many people with a home of their own. But since WikiMapia is a collection of unique places with unique descriptions, a simple "My Home" does not suffice, as nobody knows who "My" is. Places like that will be deleted.

Non-notable information
A place with no usable information must not be removed . If this is "a car" or "building", give us a more complete description. Otherwise, it will be removed for a lack of notable information. It is OK to add places with correct outline without title and description; other users will be able to provide this information later
Patent Nonsense
WikiMapia is not a collection of ramblings and nonsense. Do not use WikiMapia as a communication board for in-jokes, private conversations or blogs.
Duplicate Tags
One place deserves one tag; not two or more. Please zoom in or out to verify if a place has already been created first. Also, you can activate different WikiMapia layers to make sure there isn't already a tag there first.
Ambiguous Places
A large, vague tag created to denote a tiny place is not acceptable. This kind of tag should be resized to reflect the place it is describing, and if the correct location cannot be pinpointed, it will be deleted.
Spam/Advertising
You are permitted to denote and locate your business on WikiMapia; there is no rule against locating your business and supplying basic information about your work, job, or corporation. Feel free to tell us your location, your website, and what you offer.
However, WikiMapia is not free web space; do not submit offers or "specials" through WikiMapia as these will be removed. Keep in mind that you should properly locate and size your polygon, or your work shall be construed as spam. Flooding our forums, this wiki, the comments of other locations or any other tags on WikiMapia is not permitted regardless of your profession. Spam and excessive forms of advertising are not permitted, and may result in the banning of your account at WikiMapia.
