| About: | I have been involved, on and off, with Wikimapia since about October or November 2006.
On 5 September 2007, I created my 1000th place. The 2000th place followed on 14 September.
I have mapped a lot of Fiji's islands and villages. That project is still far from finished. I am currently taking a breather from it and concentrating on my own country, New Zealand. I have been mapping just about every geographical feature I can identify. I have superficially covered most of the area north of Auckland, the Wellington region, and the eastern coastal areas of the North Island, and Stewart Island, but whenever I get bored I do some random work elsewhere. In the last few weeks, I have returned to the Auckland region, mapping parks and schools, along with other points of interest.
Most of my places lack descriptive information, as yet. Anybody who wishes to add it will save me a lot of hard work!
And oh yes. I have also deleted around 300 places. Almost all (yes, almost all!) "private places" were tagged with such silly descriptions as "I was here" or "Pretty girl lives here!!!!" Such things deface Wikimapia, and I have made it my policy to delete them on sight.
Concerning the MARAE (Maori community houses), I have made a tentative decision which may be controversial. I have classified MARAE in the Church/Mosque/Temple category, on the grounds that Maori people attach a spiritual significance to their community houses, even though most are Christians. I am open to correction, and if any Maori person reading this objects, I will consider changing the classification. |
