President Dutra Highway (BR-116)

BR-116 highway (President Dutra Highway) is the main Brazilian and is also the largest fully paved highway in the country. It is a longitudinal highway that begins in the city of Fortaleza, in Ceara state and ending in the town of Jaguarão in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which borders Uruguay.
The total length of highway is approximately 4.385 km, passing through ten states, linking major cities such as Pelotas, Porto Alegre, Caxias do Sul, Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Sao Jose dos Campos, Taubaté, Resende, Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro, Governador Valadares, Teofilo Ottoni, Vitoria da Conquista, Feira de Santana and Fortaleza.
Presented to the Ministry of Transport by the Interministerial Commission of the Centennial of Flight 14-bis, established in March 10, 2005, to plan, coordinate and establish measures aimed at depicting the Centenary celebrations of the flight, the proposal to name the BR 116, " Rodovia Santos-Dumont, "kilometer zero in Fortaleza to the junction with BR-040 Rio de Janeiro. Then on October 23, the date of the centenary of this feat, was signed by the President to Act 11 363. The BR-040 is the one between Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia and is also called Rodovia Washington Luís, homage to the president who stated that "to govern is to build roads."
