Historic Legislative Route Number 2 Segment

State Route 2 was historically known as LRN 2 and ran from San Diego to San Francisco. This segment was constructed in 1915. Between 1859 and 1915, the road travelling through Gaviota Pass was dirt and prone to washouts. The 1915 and 1931 improvements realigned the old stage road and made it less dangerous for travel.
