Abeek

The Abeek, formerly also called Molenbeek, is a tributary of the Maas.
The Abeek rises on the Kempens Plateau at an altitude of about 80 m. The source is located in Wijshagen on the Donderslagse Heide, part of a large military shooting range. From here it flows meandering northward. It is fed by the Bullenbeek, the Hommelbeek and the Gielisbeek before it reaches Meeuwen. From Ellikom it bends to the east, past Reppel, Gerdingen and Beek. Then she dives under the Zuid-Willemsvaart. In the Bocholt low plain it is supplemented by numerous streams. In Kinrooi, the Abeek irrigates the nature reserves Stamprooierbroek, Grootbroek and De Zig.
