Melaan

The Melaan is a stream and a street of the same name in Mechelen. The Melaan consisted of two separate streams. The first, the Oude Melaan, came from the Dijle near the Winketbrug and split into two arms at the Arme Clarenstraat. One arm flowed into the Heergracht. The second arm also split into two further on. One arm flowed into the Dijle at the Kruidtuin and the second flowed into the Dijle at the Fonteinbrug. The second Melaan, the Nieuwe Melaan, flowed from the Dijle at the Persoonshoek, crossed the Sint-Katelijnestraat and flowed into the first Melaan behind the archbishop's palace. So in fact it was not a tributary, but arms of the Dijle.
