re HerZilla's airplanes:
Personally I would not have tagged something which is not a PLACE. This is a recording of an EVENT, which has been given 15 minutes of fame by Google. When Google updates their images, the tags will just be confusing, at best.
But people seem to want to mark these kinds of transients ... so what can we do to help us locate them and delete them when their time has passed? Can we suggest that something be added to the description, or make a special tag (I mean the "tag" field here) for them, or ...?
Does anyone have a suggestion that might actually work (ie: that the taggers are actually likely to follow)? |

All places in Wikimapia are events. Some of them take seconds, and the others live years, centuries, millions of years.
It is always possible to delete existing tags. |

| Thinking for example of docked military vessels, which have an extremely devoted (not to say fanatical) following, we can comfortably rely on those devotees to delete their placetags when the maps are updated and the ships are no longer where they were. But who can we count on to delete ephemera like airplane movements? |

That was my point. Thank you mrdobolino.
My own rule for tagging is that if I can't go there and see what the tag is showing then I don't tag it. But I'm conceding defeat. This is not a fight I can win. People will tag these, um, "things".
All I am looking for now is some way to help us find these in the future. Hopefully something better than just stumbling across them. |

Although not really in any map detail (none in fact), this site is quite interesting:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=51.769433&lon=-10.531597&z=13&l=0&m=a&v=2&show=/7861454/Skellig_Michael_Sceilig_Mhich%C3%ADl">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=51.769433 ... ich%C3%ADl<!-- m -->
Basically a 230 meter high sea-stack, which supported a small monastery for at least 600 years. How the monks managed to survive in this place is beyond me. Although thousands of seabirds (mainly Gannet, Cormorants and Manx Shearwaters) breed in summer they are absent during the winter and there is no flat ground to grow crops. It is a UNESCO site and can be visited in summer in good weather.
Zooming in on the nearby Little Skellig (North East), hundreds of Gannets can be seen flying around. |

A truly weird "Interesting Place":
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=51.984504&lon=-8.244649&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=2&show=/7932609/">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=51.984504 ... =/7932609/<!-- m -->
I can't quite figure out how the shadow turned out to be far more detailed than the actual object. Or is it an overlay of two separate events? |

| Hey those are really wonderfully interesting places! The next time I'm in the area I'm going to go to those places and look at all those shadows and multiple jetliners myself. Maybe I'll take some photos and post them even. Stay tuned! |
