I like the colors here at Lake Natron in Northern Kenya. The big image split down the middle of the lake, known for the flamingos that breed there is common enough. The little contrasting rectangles are less so. The lake is full of the chemical sodium carbonate or Natron, used in glass-making. The natron mostly comes from the unique Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano to the south.

Dmitry,
I think that's the Al-Hassa phosphate mine (Jordan Phosphate Mines Company). The machine in your Bing Maps link is a dragline excavator. |

| For those of you that are interested, and can tune in the Discovery Science Channel, there will be a program about the effects of the tsunami, "Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis" on April 28 at 10pm Eastern time. That would be 0300 Greenwich time. |

| While we are on airplanes here are two south of Las Vegas sharing the same airspace. Barely 400 meters apart . One tailing the other. 35.9684465 , -115.1028478 best seen at level 18, they are only business jets. I'll remove it in a few days |

| Perhaps Roger. yet I looked at Seafordians' reply again then took another look at the images. They have the same front window pattern and the same sign on the side so one may just be a de-colorized image of the other |

Those are most likely the same airplane, caught by two successive frames. It has happened before, where the same aircraft was photographed taking off from a runway.
The turbulence would be too much at that distance for a jet. That is why they separate planes by miles when on their final aproch. |

Ok, really Altoona, PA? Did you seriously sell ad rights to the name of your town? |

You didn't hear about this? This will be Altoona's name for the run of Morgan Spurlock's new movie about naming rights. He sold the naming rights to the movie, as well, to Pom Wonderful. The movie is about product placement and is loaded with product placement that companies paid for. That is how he got the financing to make the film.
Spurlock also made the move "Supersize This" about America's gluttony. He is the new Michael Moore. |
