A wind farm on the southern tip of India.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lat=8.234936&lon=77.6417542&z=12&l=0&m=b&v=8">wikimapia.org/#lat=8.234936&lon= ... =0&m=b&v=8<!-- m -->
I was removing a bad tag when I noticed a giant wind turbine next door. I tagged it and a couple of its neighbors when I realized I was wasting time. I proceeded to create a Wind Farm then extended the farm area turbine by turbine around the edges until the entire farm was covered. It came as no surprise when I found an Engineering College in the area. |

They are oil wells. Gas wells would not have the 'pumpjack'.
Natural gas needs no pump. Either the pressure would force it's way out, or water would be pumped in.
I know this as a fact... My family owns property on a gasfield in Morgan City, LA. |

I wonder how long those wind generators take to pay for themselves and begin operating in the black. Not to mention maintenance costs. Anyone have any insight into that? |

I think the Bing map is outdated cause it clearly shows some cranes building the towers in the area.
The Google view is more recent IMO... |

Nope. Historical landmark. This building will be up until the "Big One" hits L.A. See how it overlaps the street? It looks to me like a photo superimposed over the map. This is not the top of a building.
I may have to make a trip downtown tomorrow to look. |

"Ever heard of Cirque du Soleil?" Hehe! No! ;-)
I long to see my first show from them but I always am away whenever they come to Montréal. Tickets are kind of "not cheap" either... |

| Sorry, those are not Nuke towers. The power stations to the right of the towers are too small for nukes or even coal driven. As there are no coal storage piles, or rails to deliver it and there are tanks for storage of bulk liquids to the south Lets guess they are oil fired. |

@Aldi1
Very cute indeed but I hope we're not going to see too many of these kind of places on our mapping site...(very nice pictures though)
If I was adding all the Inukshuk <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inukshuk">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inukshuk<!-- m --> I find whenever I take a walk I think some wouldn't like it...:-/
Building those stone structures (called "Cairn" <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairn">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairn<!-- m -->) is like a "fashion thing" nowadays and although some of them have been built for centuries; most are just little piles of rocks without real interest to the rest of the Users...
Just my opinion (I was off topic here of course; a real debate about those (if needed), should be in another thread). |
