What is this? It looks like something went boom here. Right in an old munitions storage site. Whatever it is, I would guess that it was done, since the munitions were removed. Mythbusters maybe?? Anyone know?

So you add your own, yet discard other user's work?
[b:28ixfgld]You know about the polygon art area. After all, you have been around here since the beginning, right?[/b:28ixfgld]
You were banned before because you were an arrogant user that would not listen. Give us a reason not to ban this sock puppet of yours. |

Well, the above question may never be answered, because SPUTNlK was banned without my knowledge.
[b:1bwe6h01]Maybe one of bvulgar's other [u:1bwe6h01]sockpuppets[/u:1bwe6h01] might post an explanation.[/b:1bwe6h01] |

Sand dunes would make more sense given the location, but I suspect they actually [u:26vcq1b3]are[/u:26vcq1b3] some sort of water collection / storage facility.
Look at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lat=26.927532&lon=55.4628897&z=17&l=0&m=b&v=1">wikimapia.org/#lat=26.927532&lon ... =0&m=b&v=1<!-- m --> You can almost see how the water overflowed the left-hand embankment and continued down the hill into the next catchment basin. The dark parts are probably bushes or something that was able to grow in the places that had had that little bit of extra water. |

| Maybe more then just water catchment. They catch and hold mud and debris flows that could otherwise wipe out the road just downhill from here. You can see hundreds of basins like this along the Los Angeles foothills. I expect much of the water is allowed to rapidly soaks into the ground where it will not evaporate. Then it can be pumped out. In LA some companies actually pay the city for the sand and gravel they clear out of the basins after storms. |

| There is no imagery in that area, and Wikimapia won't draw the outline on blank grey tiles. When you zoom out far enough for there to be imagery, the tag is no longer visible. I don't think there is a way, unless that area gets higher-quality imagery (and why would it?) |

I hate it when MAJOR historical places are not noted.
I wrote a lot more than I normally would; places like this (below) deserve longer-than-usual info descriptions.
Plus, in the US, there is too much ignorance of the Yugoslavia-area WWII history. The Stara Gradiška WWII death camp finally gets a tag:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=45.1484579&lon=17.2397804&z=17&l=0&m=b&show=/16475918/WWII-Death-Camp-Stara-Gradi%C5%A1ka-Jasenovac-V">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=45.148457 ... asenovac-V<!-- m --> |

Zahid is of course joking, but on deeper thought, this village may offer some interesting insight into the culture of the region. A "dera" appears to be much more than just "my house", it's almost like a small administrative region and an enterprise with structured paternal leadership.
I guess this is probably the property of the most distinguished landlord in the area: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lat=31.5944014&lon=73.4658122&z=16&l=0&m=b&show=/12930189/Dera-Mian-Shamim-Haider">wikimapia.org/#lat=31.5944014&lo ... mim-Haider<!-- m --> |

I think, the last word in my post "Alas" could not help to convey my sarcastic tone.
What I wanted to show is the "interesting" misuse rather abuse of Wikimapia capabilities. The user worked devotedly but in wrong direction. Still, the more intersting were the comments on some tags asking the user to tag xyz's land as well. See the third comments on the following tag:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lat=31.5944014&lon=73.4658122&z=16&l=44&m=b&show=/12929943/TIWANA-%D9%B9%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%86%DB%81-Chak-No-50-R-B">wikimapia.org/#lat=31.5944014&lo ... -No-50-R-B<!-- m -->
Word "Dera" does not represnt a region. It has also been misutilized to avoid the tags from deltion and for geeting the scope to upload more photos. It is a Punjabi word and in fact stands for the "sitting place" and "Meeting point" sometime adjacent to family house and some time apart. It may be more near to "Farm House".
Anyways, there are many oter sites to project such political activities, but they should do mercy on Wikimapia. Of course, most of these tags need cleaning. |

| I totally agree with Zahid that this is "misuse", in the sense that this is not the way that Wikimapia was meant to be used. Nevertheless there is an interesting aspect to it. (I cannot judge whether it's valuable or not.) |

Zahid! IMO the tags mentioned in this area are all personal and not interests to a common person, so these should be deleted.
More opinions could be taken by placing the matter in the concerned thread. |

"taken at different times" - perhaps, but I'm not convinced the more detailed image is even of the same place. The only thing that looks like it lines up properly is the road on the left. Everything else (road alignment, density and types of buildings) looks like it is at the wrong scale (at the best) or not even the same place (at the worst).
As for why? Only G knows. |

Scott!
Both the examples are really marvelous. I think the best imagery of the map. Thank you for sharing.
Its another image from the same area: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=15.2945577&lon=20.4798178&z=23&l=0&m=s&v=9">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=15.294557 ... =0&m=s&v=9<!-- m -->
Pictures are real from this area but may not be on the actual location as surrounding areas are at too less zoomable. |

I will personally enjoy this one for a long time as I have a polished piece of intensely Blue rock from this 7,000 year old mining town on my mantle-piece. |

| I think National Geographic teamed up with Google to do those high res places. It's probably in this thread, somewhere in the earliest pages. |
