Here is an interesting place:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=34.0867156&lon=-118.3690166&z=14&l=0&m=s&v=4&show=/7030864/I-m-28-YEARS-YOUNG-HANDSOME-HOT-SEXEY-MALE-SEEKING-SWEET-GIRL-FRIEND-CALL-ME-0091-9933764858&search=los%20angeles">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=34.086715 ... %20angeles<!-- m -->
Browse around this "hidden" Los Angeles and then move around the rest of this "hidden" world. Fascinating! |

Not exactly an "interesting place", but take a look at this polygon:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=32.0569725&lon=33.7692261&z=9&l=9&m=a&v=2&show=/7000230/Archeological-Site-of-Phoenician-Shipwreck">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=32.056972 ... -Shipwreck<!-- m -->
A masterpiece, made by jacksav!
PS: while we need support from the admins, they are drawing polygons... bad guys, bad guys! I quit! (Of course, just kidding :oD) |

Hmmm, I thought it was jacksav because of polygon history: 7/06/08 - 08:02 (discarded by: jacksav)
Anyway, still being a masterpiece! ;o) |

Here's an interesting Google Earth shot over Huntington State Beach…

This jet appears relatively close to the ground over a very popular Southern California beach town, with no airport for miles around. |

| Actually zoso, it doesn't split in two as a screw up, they are just different photos of the lake...one when it is more full and one obviously under drought conditions :-P |

hmm.. nevertheless..it was quite interesting visual.. google maps usually does not use different images at different zoom levels..Otherwise this was not possible: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=39.1695468&lon=-76.6677985&z=20&l=0&m=a&v=2">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=39.169546 ... =0&m=a&v=2<!-- m -->
So i guess using different images could count as a minor screw up.. :P |

zoso- Google maps has 3 different levels in some places.
1. Satellite images- For the extreme zoom out.
2. High level aerial photography- for medium to close zooms.
3. Low level aerial photography- for extreme close zooms. Not every location has these.
Example of #3- Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia. Zoom = 22
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.wikimapia.org/#lat=-33.8910004&lon=151.2779476&z=22&l=0&m=h&v=2&search=bondi%20beach">www.wikimapia.org/#lat=-33.89100 ... di%20beach<!-- m --> |

Yes the zoom level and photo quality certainly differ in parts of the world...try zooming in at z=22 in NYC. You don't see people walking on the street...but in Australia, they have a different zoom quality...different strokes in different places.
I mean, some places you cannot even zoom in at z=22! It's not a minor screw up, just a difference in how the photos are taken and pieced together, which, is piecemeal!

But seriously, those are not the kinds of "flaws" that you would expect to get with modern electronic equipment. And as pointed out, there are other similarly random clumps in the area as well.
I'm inclined to think they must be shadows, simply because I can think of nothing else. At first I thought balloons, but then you'd see the actual balloons somewhere also, so I'm going to think birds now. Flocks of birds can fly in "formations" that can seem to have pretty well-defined edges, especially front edges. |
