| Fine place mitsver! But hopelessly described :( In fact, this is large military testing / training range. No clue wheter it is for aircrafts or LR missiles. Maybe for both. One of the target patterns looks like an imitation of a town. Interesting. |

These are/were yellow sandstone mountains which have been quarried for stone for decades. What one sees are the furrows which look like something natural. They are man made. |

| The surrounding area has a similar appearance to the gold/copper mining operations seen in Peru. |

artdemouy: No strip mining for gold here. But mostly poor quality sandstone which is used for building foundations or macadams. Here is something else:

| I think it would be good to have a forum about unidentifiable things. For example I found an enormous (800ft diamter) round concrete 'object' at what used to be a military site in Cornwall. I just cannot fathom what it is, and as its a military site it is impossible to go to look |

This is a radio transmission facility. Zoom in to level 2 and you'll see hundreds of antenna masts. Each transmitter probably has a ground plane reflector (hundreds of buried cables under the antennas); thus explaining the flat, smooth circles.
It looks like a combination of radio types - probably LF/VLF (large array), navigational radio (compass point arrays), and communication. It's probably either naval or maritime radio since it's close to the shoreline. |

| Hi RAINGOD, that site certainly fits KeithRay's description. I also found it after scanning Cornwall back and forth. I agree that it looks like an antenna farm. I did not respond sooner because I have been searching for an official description of the site. If I find something I'll post it. |

Hi RAINGOD & artdemouy,
Thanks for your input. Certainly sounds like a plausible explanation. I didn't know before about fixed transmitters or telescopes like this. The one in Alaska looks awasome! If it was ever closed think what a great skateboard park it would make!
Maybe everyone would like to search for more of these rather sinister sites. There must be many more somewhere
Cheers
Keith

| The pilot did a wonderful job in bringing the plane to land after the cataastrophic engine failure to both engines with no seriouly injuries. I agree, it was very creative, but should it be there? |

| Yes, it should be there. Just because The pilot did a wonderful job in bringing the plane to land after the catastrophic engine failure to both engines with no seriouly injuries. How many heroes have their statues all over this world? This pilot certainly deserves one on Wikimapia. |

- I think that it should be there. Some people are marking places where ships were sunk, like Bismarck or Komsomolets. I think that since that places are considered as graves it's ok to mark them. |

In this area many multi-megaton nuclear devices were detonated by the Soviet Union, including "Tsar Bomba" - most powerful nuclear device ever detonated (50 MT). See good pictures, watch great video clips and visit dedicated website!
Please note that this is valid location. Coordinates provided by USGS are very rough and should not be considered valid. Also, it's visible on both the fotos and video clips that "Tsar bomba" was detonated over relatively flat terrain, while terrain in a place given by USGS is rough. |

That particular piece of real estate has been edited by my friend Warthog. He loves airports, military bases, and conspiracy theories.
If you find an airport that needs editing, send it to him. He is very resourceful. And tell him Scott sent ya... :o) |

| Ghighiu - it is named just to the left of the station. Ghighiu monastery is located to the south of this place. I suppose "gara" means "station". I'm going to merge both places. |
