    Mani Bhawan was the residence of Mahatma Gandhi when he came to Bombay. The area around it which includes Kashibai Navrange Raod (Old Alexandra Road), Krishna Sanghi Path, Wacha Gandhi Road and Laburnum Road on which it is situated have been declared as a Heritage Area and consequently no high rise is supposed to be constructed there. However, as the saying goes, laws are made to be broken and this is particularly true in a corrupt country like India where all misiters can be bought for money. Consequently, there have been a few high rise buildings in the area and one high rise is coming up at the corner of Laburnum Road, the very road on which Mani Bhavan is situated. The matter is in the High Court of Bombay for a stay on the building and to declare the building to be illegal. One has to wait and watch as to see the decision of the court.
