Purchased from a company in Denmark, the Vestas V27 was shipped to California and refurbished by Enexco. The turbine was erected in 2006 by White Construction from Indiana.

The turbine is capable of producing 225kW of power when wind speeds are at least 31 mph. Safety measures stop the turbine when wind speeds exceed 56 mph to avoid damaging the turbine. Approximately 7% of the Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) power is expected to be generated by the turbine.
