Superior Union Depot was owned by the Lake Superior Terminal and Transfer Railway, which was a subsidiary of the Great Northern, the Northern Pacific, the Soo Line, and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroads. LSTT was merged into Burlington Northern during 1987.
Amtrak served Superior with the North Star passenger train until it was cancelled on April 7, 1985.
The North Star connected Minneapolis (and Chicago) with Duluth.
