A city in central Henan province, China. It is situated along the south-western edge of the North China Plain northeast of the Funiu Range (an eastern extension of the Qin Mountains). Xuchang is a centre for the tobacco industry with one of the largest cigarette factories in China. The city has a number of structures dating from the Han dynasty (206 bc-ad 220), including ruins of walls, a canal, and a bridge.
