Listed Republic Cement Corp. on Wednesday disclosed that its consortium, along with Lafarge Holdings (Philippines) Inc. has won the bidding for the basalt quarry of Concrete Aggregates Corp in Rizal province.

The total cost for the acquisition is P607 million. Of this, Republic Cement will pay P402 million while Lafarge Holdings will pay P268 million.

In a statement to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Republic Cement said it will own 60 percent of the new company that Concrete Aggregates will form to manage the quarry. Its affiliate Lafarge will own 40 percent.

"The acquisition of the assets and the operation of Concrete Aggregates basalt quarry is seen to complement Republic Cement's current cement business and an opportunity for Republic Cement to enter into the aggregates business with an immediate significant presence in the markets which CM already serves for cement- Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog," the company said.

Lafarge Philippines is the operating unit in the country of Lafarge S.A., a French industrial company which produces construction materials.
