he Journey of GC University Faisalabad started in 1897 as a Municipal Middle School. it was housed in the building of the present Govt. College for Women Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad, and was upgraded to High School in September 1905. In 1916, the provincial government took over the management of this institution and moved it to the present building. It became Intermediate College in 1924 and Degree College in October 1933 and a Postgraduate College in 1963.

The government of the Punjab declared Government College, Faisalabad as an autonomous institution on 1 July 1990. The College was given the status of University on 23 October 2002. The university has been building up by adding some large new buildings recently. Yousaf Block is one of them where all the professional studies are held currently. GCUF also trying to extend its area so another campus is concerned near Sahiwala, Dist. Faisalabad.

One of the brilliant dpartments of GCUF is Department Of Environmental Sciences which posses a central importance in industrial areas such as Faisalabad and will soon be in full swing.
