The roots of the power plant of Langerbrugge go’s back to 1913. The key was the basis of the industrial development of the Ghent-Terneuzen. The plant is operated by Electrabel.
In 1959, a central ran on coal, oil and natural gas. The current power plant consists of two units: a boiler and a backpressure steam turbine generator.
Today the plant produces electricity for general consumption and process steam to the surrounding businesses (Stora Enso, Kronos, and Algist Bruggeman).
Soon it starts a new part of the history of Langerbrugge with the launch of 2 new fire tube boilers and steam power to Kronos.
The factory also houses the Museum Energeia, which preserved steam engines and steam turbines be exhibited. The management of Electrabel has decided, however, that the museum is no longer open to the public.
