Middlegate was one of three 'gates' in the local terrain as marked in 1850 by James H. Simpson, a U.S. surveyor. In 1859 the Overland Stage built Middlegate Station to serve the Pony Express as a changeover point. Middlegate fell into disuse until 1952, when it was restored and reopened as a bar and cafe. It is currently owned and run by Russ and Fredda Stevenson, and serves as a waystation along U.S Route 50.

Comments

  • After riding 50 all day, this is the best place to stop for lunch, fuel, and the world's best Bloody Mary.
  • Have a monsterous burger. Few can finish the entire meal
