Marriott Glasgow (Glasgow)

United Kingdom / Scotland / Glasgow / Argyle Street, 500

Built in 1981 as a Holiday Inn, and opened in April 1982, the 15 storey hotel was later rebranded as a Marriott some time in the 1990s. The Holiday Inn brand reappeared on the nearby former Albany Hotel some years later. The hotel saw the final realisation of the original Richard Seifert masterplan that a hotel as part of his Anderston Centre, although this building was in no way connected to it.......

A grand plan was hatched in the mid 2000s between various developers and the Intercontinental Hotels Group (owners of both the Marriott and Holiday Inn brands), the Holiday Inn would go, to be replaced by Bothwell Plaza - a new hotel-cum-office complex into which Marriott would move - leaving the 1982 building to be replaced by new offices as an extension to what had already been built on the Anderston Centre site. It all bit the dust after the 2008 credit crisis.
