Mysterious "back entrance," (or perhaps back escape route) between the Murphy Ranch and Sullivan Canyon Road high above.
This cast in place stairway is 18 inches wide and each step is only three and three quarter inches (9.5cm) high. About the right dimensions for a six year old child.
Total number of steps is 999.
Perhaps the builders had intended an even one thousand steps and the construction workers lost count.
On the other hand, 999 would be equal to 666 turned upside down.
What is known is that ranch owner Winona Stephens was into "para-normal" mysticism (as though her being an American Nazi in 1940 wasn't "para-normal" enough.)
