Phokar Urgyen Dzong | monument, monastery

India / Jammu and Kashmir / Kargil /
 monument, monastery

A place in the mountains, where Phadmasambhava meditated in caves. Now opposite the caves is a Drukpa-Kagyu gompa.
Access is from Shergol. Leave NH1D in Shergol to the southwest til you reach the campsite, cross creek and proceed up to the canyon. There are metal and wooden ladders. Then up the hillside to the left until you see the gompa.
There are several caves and natural buddhist signs on the rocks.

Recommend to get "Paldan" the keeper of the place as a guide. You have to inquire in Shergol or Mulbekh. He goes up there at least twice a week to keep the butterlamps burning.
