U-571 was a German Type VIIC submarine of World War II. She conducted eleven war patrols, sinking seven ships. On January 28, 1944 while operating in a wolfpack with seven other U-boats, she was attacked by an Australian-crewed Sunderland aircraft and sank with all 52 hands. Following the loss of U-571 and U-271 to the North on the same day, the Wolfpack was disbanded without sinking any Allied vessels.
