As the Louisiana Purchase included all land drained by the Mississippi River it did not include the bluffs east of the river in Louisiana.The area remained in Spanish Flag was raised above the fort. The capital was north of Baton Rouge at St. Francisville. The Republic lasted 90 days at which point it was annexed by the United States.
