This was West Hartford's first cemetery, and its only one until 1790. Many prominent figures in the town's early history are buried here, including the parents of famed lexicographer and author Noah Webster. Another interment in the cemetery is that of Bristol, an enslaved African who ultimately purchased his own freedom in 1775 from the prominent Hooker family of Hartford.
