Located on the slopes of the scenic Myohyang mountains, Pohyonsa is one of the famous Buddhist temples of Korea. Founded in 1024, during the Koryo dynasty, the temple was named after the Boddhisattva Samantabhadra (Pohyon in Korean). The temple houses a copy of the Tripitaka Koreana, and was also the residence of the famed warrior-monk Sosan in his last years. The temple is designated as National Treasure #40 in North Korea,with many of its component buildings and structures further declared as individual national treasures
