Built by the Port of Los Angeles at a cost of 14 million dollars.
Almost an acre of polished black granite, holding 400,000 gallons of water.
At night powerful multi-colored searchlights are planned to illuminate streams of water up to 100 feet high. This installation was designed by the same company that did the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
Officially opened 20 July 2008.
The two reflecting pools are 18 inches (0.45 meter) deep.
The Port Authority immediately found that these two artificial ponds were an irresistable attraction to local kids looking to cool off on a hot summer's day. To prevent further use of this fountain as a swimming pool, the city has stationed a uniformed guard during daylight hours. It is hoped that when the kids are back in school after Labor Day, the guard will no longer be necessary. Otherwise, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn (San Pedro District) has suggested "some kind barrier, something decorative."

  • I like using the fountain as a bidet for that hard-to-beat fresh clean feeling. Tips help guards see nothing.
