The "Muizenfort (Mice Fort)" was built in 1874-1877 as part of the New Dutch Water Line (which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It was also part of the Stelling van Amsterdam (Defence Line of Amsterdam, which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site).
The fort was mobilized both in 1914-1918 and in 1940. Before World War II, a casemate and a group shelter were built on the fort.
Nowadays the fort is a museum: the Muider Muizenfort Museum.
