Droim Locha 'ridge of the lake'
The name of the townland of Drumlough is derived from Toner, G. (1992) Irish Droim Locha 'ridge of the lake' although a number of historical spellings may indicate that this was once pronounced Droim Lacha where lach represents an early variant of loch 'lake' (DIL sv. 1. loch). The townland probably takes its name from Toner, G. (1992) the lake within its confines where the Newry River rises, now known as Drum Lough (see OSM iii 19).
