Newington Bagpath Castle is a Norman earthwork motte and bailey fortress, standing against the steep banks of the Little Avon River. The low motte is surrounded by a wide ditch which disappears on the escarpment and to the north, the disused church of St Bartholomew's, stands on the castles rectangular bailey platform.
