The Columbia Hotel was originally five large Victorian town houses. Professional people, merchants and aristocracy occupied the houses with their families and servants. With large rooms, balconies and contemporary decorative features, the houses were highly valued by the rich and successful. During World War I one of the houses was an American Red Cross Hospital, and after the war the five houses became The Palace Hotel, then The Columbia Club. Renamed The Columbia Hotel in 1975.

  • In the 60's and early 70's, used to be the "Columbia Club", an Officer's club for the US military in London.
  • Sure miss the old club.Good times were always bountiful.
  • I remember visiting this hotel when my Father worked here as an officer in the early 70's. I remember visiting the hotel as a precocious 5 year olf and having a grand time!
  • We've stayed there several times in the early 1980's because of it's history as a U.S. Military Officer's Club and it continued to offer discounts for U.S. Military Officers. 2016 we are returning to London. The rates quoted to me were more than what the "cheap" hotel web sites are offering. despite referencing past stays and Officer status. I am very disappointed. LtC USAF Retired
