Formerly a stop on the Northampton to Peterborough segment of the London & Birmingham Railroad. Last scheduled passenger service was 04 May 1964. The main station was built in 1884 for use by members of the Royal Family when they visited Barnwell Manor, home of the Duke of Gloucester.

Station waiting room was moved in 1977 to Wansford, near Peterborough, and now serves as the Wansford station on the historic Nene Valley Railway.

Main station house is now a private residence, with track bed visible to the left of the station. The old track bed is mostly buried beneath the A605, the highway visible to the left of the station.
